Waitakere Auckland Brass Band showcased their versatility at the popular Jazz Mania Concert this weekend. More big band and swing rather than traditional brass for this annual event.
An audience of close to 200 people were treated to a wide mix of jazz styles which really demonstrated the range and musicality around the stands as The Band performed in swing style. Musical Director Grant Langdon even arranged many of the items on the programme.
International vocalist Paul Ross joined The Band as Guest Artist, the crowd clearly loved his rich velvet tones as The Grand Hall at New Lynn RSA was filled with rapturous applause by the end of the evening.
The Band would like to thank New Lynn RSA for their generous support of this event, their supporters and corporate table sponsors many of whom purchased ticket packages which were donated to local retirement villages.
The Band would also like to thank Sir Bob Harvey, local councillors Penny Hulse and Linda Cooper and Ross Clow plus representatives from the Community Trusts whose support of the event is much appreciated.
The Band are mid preparations for The New Zealand National Brass Championships in July, so this concert was a chance for them to let their hair down before the serious contest work starts.
If you want to see The Band perform their contest repertoire, there will be a Pre-Contest Concert on Sunday 7th July at New Lynn RSA. Save the date and we will have more details to follow.
