Thanks to the New Lynn RSA

We’re hugely grateful to the RSA who’ve donated the use of the Grand Hall to us allowing the band to extend this act of generosity to the community by offering a free concert.

Annual Brass Band National Championships

Only world wars have interrupted the annual meeting of some of the worlds best brass bands over a 138 year period. From the 11th-15th July Blenheim will be alive to the sound of music! Follow the link here: if you’d like to read more about this competition that moves around New Zealand, allowing international visitors the chance to enjoy the spectacular sites after a day of competing.

But wait - there’s more!

This year, we’re thrilled to announce British cornetist, Tom Hutchinson from The Cory Band (one of the oldest and best-known brass bands in the world) will be joining us. This Besson artist travels the world performing and inspiring others through masterclasses. You really don’t want to miss the opportunity to hear this world-class performer while he’s in our neck of the woods.

Tom Hutchinson

As well as being Professor of Cornet at the Royal Welsh College of Music, Tom recently recorded his own solo album 'In Principal' featuring new compositions written for him. We look forward to Tom bringing the aims of the Cory Band (to create music that’s 'spine-tingling, moving and life-affirming’) to our very own RSA in New Lynn.

What you can expect to hear from the band

The band will perform the set test piece of music and their own choice. Plus, you’ll get to hear some of our soloists perform their chosen solo and duet pieces.

If you haven’t already….draw a huge red circle around the date 8th July and get booking now!

Not content to have just one world-class performer…..

We’re proud to have Fletcher Mitchell an Australian based euphonium soloist and Yamaha Performing Artist join us. Fletcher, who is also a Clinician, has travelled the world performing as a guest soloist. For the last 12 years Fletcher’s been a full-time euphonium player with the Royal Australian Navy Band so expect a stunning performance at the RSA!
